I would like the ability to change or add a group to an event already created on the calendar screen. It seems people want to go to the calendar first to add an event ... and then I get to explain that they have to delete and re-enter.

Thanks for your feedback - we've added this onto our feature requests list.
In the mean time, you can invite everyone from your group to an existing event by going to that event --> invite People --> Select the groups tab --> pick which group/s you would like to invite to the event.
