Many of our volunteers are married couples, who often will be unavailable at the same time due to holidays or whatever. It would be advantageous if they didn't both have to submit such unavailability, but if one of them could do it on the other's behalf.
On the submit unavailability page for those who are listed as having spouses, how about a question that says:
"Does this also apply to [spouse's name]?"
